ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT IS REQUIRED FOR THE TERMO OIL DRILLING !

Yes it's official…WE WON THE FIRST BATTLE!  We, the residents, caused LA County to REQUIRE AN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT!

We ALSO won a bit second victory by getting the Public Comment period extended by 15 days to June 11.  These were both because of public involvement!

THANK YOU EVERYBODY who put time, effort, and you signatures to the petitions, coming to the meetings and spreading the word.

                                                                 THANK YOU ALL !!!

Previously disseminated info about the EIR may have been misleading.
Around April 7, 2015, Termo, echoed by the Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council (PRNC) published these:

From the Termo website:
"Although not required for the proposed project, Termo elected to perform a complete EIR…"

From the PRNC:
"Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council is pleased to hear that The Termo Company has taken the responsibility to complete the EIR…"

HOWEVER:
According to the LA County document, the Notice of Preparation ( NOP ) , a required document for this project

County document: Notice of Preparation and public Scoping Meeting

the COUNTY has determined that an EIR should be prepared, despite what Termo and the PRNC say,
The County document states:

POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS OF THE PROJECT
Based on a preliminary review of the proposed project consistent with section 15060 of the CEQA Guidelines, the
COUNTY HAS DETERMINED THAT AN EIR SHOLD BE PREPARED
(all CAPS added by SPR) for this proposed project. In addition, consistent with Guidelines, the County has identified the following probable environmental effects of the project, which will be addressed in the EIR for this project:

· Hazardous Materials
· Air Quality/GHGs
· Biological Resources
· Hydrology and Water Resources
· Geological Resources
· Noise
· Fire Protection/Emergency
· Aesthetics/Visual Resources
· Transportation/Circulation
· Land Use/Policy Consistency
· Cultural Resources/Archaeology
· Public Services and Utilities
· Energy and Mineral Resources

That document states that the COUNTY determined, NOT Termo, that an EIR should be done.
And the EIR has NOT EVEN BEGUN!   WE the RESIDENTS have a lot to say about what is actually studied in the EIR before it begins.  Our deadline for that is MAY 27, 2015 !!!
Termo and the PRNC have not given us the full story, (that document) and make it seem like Termo is doing the right thing all by themselves.  The County document says otherwise.
The PRNC did NOT do their job and get confirmation, from the County, of Termo's statements.  They just took Termo's word for it passed that along to us residents.

Be ready for much "spin" and misinformation to come.  It will be carefully crafted to make this EIR process seem way different than it really is.

Save Porter Ranch will provide you with the facts you need to know to help you stop this project.
